Gerry Metcalf was the spitting image of John Holland and had this photo on his desk for many years.

COMMENTS

During his 50+ cruises, adventures and excursions Gerry wrote 1.3 million words describing his work, his shipmates and his times. This archive tells the story of one man's achievements in collecting Oceanographic measurements from the arctic to the equator and the antarctic oceans.

Gerry always expected the very best from his shipmates and, some times, was disappointed. But he always told the truth in his logs, as he saw it at the time it happened.
